Many of the people that I've heard supporting the recent anti-tax demonstrations happen to be government employees and benefit recipients, some on life-long pensions and other kinds of government payroll, aid and subsidy.
I've worked for the government myself at different times in my life. Perhaps that's why I happen to have a different view on the broad issue of taxes and governance than the Teabaggers do. I believe that not only does our country need the services that government provides, but we need those services to be provided Effectively, by people who believe that the job can and should be done well.
When I've worked for the government, I've preferred to be paid. With money.
If you are a military or government worker who finds tax-funded government abhorrant, perhaps you would like to give your job to the next person in line. Or if you're military, maybe you should just forego the paychecks. That would make the "all volunteer force" truly "all volunteer", wouldn't it? It would offer your argument perhaps its only chance at integrity: No taxes? No tax-funded paychecks for you.
I personally know quite a few military retirees who are currently on lifelong government pensions, (I believe we all do), who happen to be the loudest and most committed "teabaggers" among us. To me, it's a very funny perspective.
Maybe they would rather be paid in kibble. But where would the kibble come from? Who fills the kibble jar?
Or perhaps they should simply refuse the steady, lifelong stream of tax money flowing into their personal checking accounts. If, after the first few attempts, it's not possible to convince the government to stop sending you your pension or paychecks, the simple solution is to not cash them.
Or...instead of accepting your tax-tainted government check, you could soak it in a hot glass of water...maybe the resulting "tea" would be enough to sustain you in your golden years...
